The climate in the Bahamas

Consisting of more than 700 islands, cays, and islets, the Bahamas is a country in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Cuba and southeast of the American state of Florida. It has a population of over 353,658. The country is an independent Commonwealth realm. The islands are low and flat with many beaches, attracting numerous holidaymakers each year. Visitors also enjoy the pleasant climate. The Bahamas has a subtropical to tropical climate that is moderated by the Gulf Stream. The yearly average high temperature is 29°C with highs near 32°C in summer and 25°C in winter. The annual daily mean is 25°C. Typical low temperatures are near 24°C in summer and 17°C in winter. Average annual rainfall is 1,389mm with the majority falling during the summer months. During the summer and autumn, hurricanes may pass near or through the islands. One of the most recent hurricanes to hit the island was Hurricane Irene in 2011.
