Czech Republic is a country situated in Central Europe and shares its border with Germany to the northwest and west and Austria to the south. The largest city and capital is Prague the fifteenth-largest city in the European Union with approximately 1.3 million people. The Czech Republic is renowned for its historical territories of Bohemia and Moravia, and Czech Silesia. It is characterised by its charming towns full of historical treasures, magnificent old castles, peaceful mountains, forests, lakes, villages, people and traditions. It is a great country for hiking, biking and touring. The climate here belongs to the temperate climate zone with warm, dry summers and cold winters. The coldest month is January with average temperatures around 0°C, but occasionally winter months can go far below zero accompanied by strong, cold winds. Sometimes it is possible to see heavy snowfall and even snowstorms up to 120 days a year on average in the mountainous areas of the country. During the summer the temperatures are generally between 20°C and 25°C although sometimes heavy thunderstorms can occur at the end of the day.
