Estonia is a state in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. The Estonians are Finnic people, and the official language, Estonian, is a Finno-Ugric language closely related to Finnish, and distantly to Hungarian. It is a democratic parliamentary republic divided into fifteen counties, with its capital and largest city being Tallinn. The main reason most people first come to Estonia is to see the best protected and intact medieval city in Europe - Tallinn. The unique value of Tallinn's Old Town lies first in the intact nature of its medieval structure, which has been lost in most of the capitals of northern Europe. Estonia lies in the northern part of the temperate climate zone and in the transition zone between maritime and continental climate. Estonia has four seasons. Average temperatures range from 16.3 °C on the Baltic islands to 18.1 °C in July, the warmest month, and from ?3.5 °C on the Baltic islands to ?7.6 °C in February, the coldest month.
