The climate in La Rochelle

Found on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Poitou-Charentes region of France, La Rochelle is a city and a seaport with a population of 80,014. The city’s bedrock is composed of limestone dating back to the Jurassic period. This limestone is visible in the white cliffs that border the sea. Today, the city has maintained its past architecture, making it very picturesque. Popular attractions include the Vieux Port, the harbour towers, the aquarium, and boat trips to nearby islands. La Rochelle has an oceanic climate that is influenced by the Gulf Stream. The city rarely experiences very cold or very hot weather. Summers are dry and sunny with an average high temperature of 23°C. Winters are mild and wet with average highs around 8°C and lows near 4°C. Average annual rainfall is 755mm with October through January being the wettest months.
