The climate in Germany

Germany is located in West Central Europe and shares its borders with 8 other countries. It is the most populous member state in the European Union with 80 million inhabitants. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. The Federal Republic of Germany is the economic and political leader in the EU and was one of its founding members in 1957. It has been home to major philosophers, scientists and music composers and has a rich political history. The country has a temperate seasonal climate with strong westerly winds. Northern Germany experiences an oceanic climate due to its proximity to the North Atlantic Drift. Winters are mild and summers rather warm with rainfall occurring year round. Central and southern parts have more of a continental climate with very cold winters and very warm summers with temperatures exceeding 30°C.
