Frankfurt’s climate

Found on the River Main, southeast of the Taunus mountain range in west-central Germany, Frankfurt is the fifth largest city in the country with a population of 691,518 in the city centre and over 5.6 million in the metro area. The financial and transport centre of Germany, the city is an international centre for finance, commerce, culture, transport, education, and tourism. Popular landmarks include the Romer, Saint Bartholomew’s Cathedral, Saint Paul’s Church, Haus Wertheim, Palmengarten, and Alte Oper. Frankfurt has a temperate-oceanic climate characterised by moderately cold winters and warm summers. The average high temperature in winter is 4°C with lows near -1°C. In summer, the average high is 25°C. The average annual precipitation is 629mm with rainfall spread out fairly evenly over the year. The city has about 1,662 hours of sunshine each year.
