The climate in Greenland

Greenland is an autonomous country and a self-governing overseas administrative division of Denmark. It is situated between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is the largest island in the world that is not considered as a continent. It counts a total population of 55,984 people with Nuuk its capital and the largest city. It has stunning scenery with blue and white Icebergs that seem to float endlessly covering 80% of its surface. What attracts many tourists around the word are the northern lights or Aurora Borealis as they are officially known that occur during the whole year but cannot be seen during the summer months in Greenland due to the midnight sun. It is easier to see this phenomenon around midnight with a dark and clear sky during the period from September to the beginning of April. Greenland has an arctic climate with average temperatures reaching 10° C in the warmest summer months. Temperatures In the southern part of the country though can reach over 20°C in June, July or August.
