Celebrate the birth of the world’s greatest playwright!

Every year a unique event is celebrated in Statford-upon-Avon: the celebration of William Shakespeare’s birthday! The birthday celebration is a tradition going back to nearly 200 years ago.

This year will mark Shakespeare’s 450th birthday and for the occasion the birthday weekend will bring together performers, artists, the local community and ambassadors from around the world to celebrate the life and work of the author. The celebration usually brings together thousands of visitors from around the globe!

As a reminder, William Shakespeare was born on 26th April 1564 and died April 23rd 1616. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and his greatest works include Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and Royal Shakespeare Company are planning a full day of entertainment with music, street entertainers, storytelling, acting, stage combat, tours of Shakespeare’s houses and the chance to spot occasional famous actors!
