When it comes to the star signs, people’s opinions are as varied as the planets themselves; some are harsh and uncompromising, while others are welcoming. Like anything else in this world, astrology is what you make of it; you can dismiss it off hand, or you can use it to improve your life.

Here are just a few quotes from people who have took both of those approaches. Read them yourself and decide whether you are for or against the practice of astrology.

The positive

“We need not feel ashamed of flirting with the zodiac.  The zodiac is well worth flirting with.” - D.H Lawrence

The English writer had a known fondness for everything zodiac and very much valued its worth. He thought there was much to be learned by looking up at the stars.

“I believe in a lot of astrology. I believe in aliens…I look up into the stars and I imagine: ‘How self-important are we to think that we are the only life-form?’” - Katy Perry

Popstar Katy Perry isn’t afraid to shine a light on her zodiac beliefs. In her song Firework, she even sings about the stars and the moon. She recognises that humans may not be quite as clever as we sometimes think we are.

“About astrology and palmistry: they are good because they make people vivid and full of possibilities. They are communism at its best. Everybody has a birthday and almost everybody has a palm.” - Kurt Vonnegut

The Slaughterhouse Five author appreciated the humanistic and political qualities of the zodiac movement.

“Astrology is like a weather report; it tells you what conditions you’re likely to face in the future. If the weatherman says it’s probably going to rain, you bring an umbrella. If you follow that advice, you won’t get wet.” - Lee Goldberg

Meteorologist, Goldberg, knew how to put his learnings into a practical scenario and ensure that astrology was understood on a day-to-day level.

“Millionaires don't use Astrology, billionaires do.” - J.P. Morgan

You could do much worse than listening to the historic financier.

Negative

“I don’t believe in astrology; I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.”  - Arthur C. Clarke

The British science fiction writer, Arthur C. Clarke, knew exactly how to throw a satirical punch, such as this one.

“Astrology is an aesthetic affront. It cheapens astronomy, like using Beethoven for commercial jingles.”  - Richard Dawkins

Renowned sceptic, Dawkins, had an opinion to share regarding astrology. It wasn’t a positive one.

“Superstition is to religion what astrology is to astronomy the mad daughter of a wise mother. These daughters have too long dominated the earth.” - Voltaire

The philosopher, Voltaire, was another who wasn’t taken in by the signs of the zodiac.

“I don't believe in astrology. The only stars I can blame for my failures are those that walk about the stage.” -  Noel Coward

Noel Coward was even humourous when he was being critical.
