After creating a small Ice rink for his children, Sami Päivike, armed with his own All-Terrain Vehicle, decided to make another one, much bigger this time. As long as 25 km, the improvised route mainly attracts ice skaters but also dog walkers and even people in wheelchairs. The inhabitants of Rovaniemi, the hometown of Father Christmas, seem to really enjoy this act of kindness. According to Sami Päivike, his creation allows people to see the city “from a different perspective”.

The Finnish man, who loves spending his time outside, says he hopes to recreate the trail next year. Let’s hope that officials will not shut down his operation as Mr Päivike says he will continue to build his ice skating lanes as long as he is able to.
