Hurricane-force winds gusting to over 100mph left a swathe of damage in Scotland and the north of Britain overnight. Up to 75,000 properties in Scotland were left without power while ScotRail suspended its rail services "for safety reasons".

CrossCountry trains running between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Newcastle have been delayed and a train between Margate and Chatham broke down which resulted in the postponement of some services.

Drivers should be extra careful and are advised to take other transportations today.
