You have always heard the phrase - "Mercury in retrograde" -  But do you know what it means and how astrologers think it affects you and your life?

If your answer was no, then we'd like to know that you're going to have an explanation for some of the things that are happening right now.

That is because Mercury is in retrograde right now and it is expected to stay there until the middle of April.

What is Mercury in retrograde

A simple explanation for the process from the Astrophysics Science Division (ASD) of NASA, who wrote in a blog: "Normally, the planets move west-to-east through the stars at night. This is referred to as a prograde motion. We call this retrograde motion. "

Thus, this motion makes planets look like they're going in the opposite direction when we stare at the skies from earth.

The ASD of NASA added: "It is not REAL in that the planet does not just start moving backwards in its orbit, it just appears to be so because of the relative positions of the planet earth and how they are moving around the Sun. "

There are many beliefs out there regarding this, but one prominent one is that people should avoid pursuing a new venture until Mercury is out of retrograde. Those who believe this reckon that retrograde represents a time when people should be reflective.

Other astrologers believe that this is a time when bad luck is more likely to be changed in the motion of gravity which affects people's moods.

There is even a website which focuses on it, called At the moment, it features a statement which reads: "YES, that can account for the weirdness."

Look to luck

However, many people do not believe that it's just a planetary occurrence that has no affect on the world we live in.

For instance, Columbia University astronomy professor David Helfand told the New York Post that "it is not going to solve anything" . "

Jean-Luc Margot, a planetary astronomer and professor at UCLA, told LiveScience that any relationship between our moods and gravitational pull should be immediately rubbished.

She said: "The idea that the gravity of these very remote bodies affects our lives in some way does not work in the framework of physics."

Whatever your beliefs, it is certainly an interesting time in the astrology calendar and one that should be taken note of ... especially if things seem a little weird at the moment.
