The 10 Best Places to Live in the World

What are the most pleasant cities in the world?

After having researched 460 cities around the world, the global consulting firm Mercer established its ranking for the most pleasant places to live in 2012.

To obtain an objective ranking, the firm studied 39 criteria, grouped into 10 categories. This study was based on the political and social environment (stability, crime rates, laws, etc.), the economic and socio-cultural environment, health infrastructure, public services and transportation, cultural sites and entertainment, the natural environment, the quality of consumer goods, etc.

Other than provoking competition and comparisons between the cities, above all, the ranking helps cities to know their weaknesses and their strengths according to a scientific survey in order to make changes.

European cities are well-ranked with 15 present in the top 25.

This study confirms that Germany provides its population with a great quality of life. We can find 3 German cities in the top 10, followed by Switzerland with 2 cities.

The major capitals are not present in the top 10, certainly due to their high crime rates and pollution.
