The climate in Cancun

Found in the Southeast of Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun is a city on the Caribbean Sea. It has a population of almost 630,000. The city’s tourist zone is part of the world’s second largest coral reef. While known for its beaches and parties, Cancun is also home to small Mayan vestiges of the pre-Columbian Maya civilisation. The climate in Cancun is tropical, more particularly a wet and dry climate with very little temperature changes between seasons but distinct rainy seasons. Average temperatures are between 28 and 34°C. Rain falls on average 115 days per year with annual rainfall around 1,340mm. Hurricanes can also hit the city during the summer months, the most recent doing damage in 2007.
