The climate in Aberdeen

Located in the Northeast of Scotland between two river mouths, Aberdeen is the third most populous city in the country with a population of over 220,000. This Scottish city is a leading business centre and contributes greatly to the British economy. With two universities, Aberdeen is also the educational centre of the North East. After discovery of oil in the North Sea, this coastal city is often referred to as the Oil Capital of Europe or the Energy Capital of Europe. The climate of this leading city is an oceanic one. Despite its northern location, the weather is quite mild. Average temperatures in summer are around 17°C and typically around 0°C in the winter. Aberdeen has very little daylight in the winter – around 6 hours and 40 minutes at its shortest. In the summer, days can be as long as 18 hours.
