The climate in Cambridge

Situated on the River Cam in Cambridgeshire, East of England, Cambridge has a population of about 130,000. This British city is known for the University of Cambridge which was founded in 1209 and is usually ranked as one of the top five universities in the world. This student town is also part of the high-technology centre called Silicon Fen. In the summer, tourists and locals alike can enjoy the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival, eight weeks of open-air performances of William Shakespeare’s works. The climate of this city is a maritime one greatly influenced by the Gulf Stream. It is located in the driest region of the UK with an average rainfall of 570mm. Summers are somewhat hotter than areas west with average temperatures around 23°C. Winters see little snow accumulations with temperatures around 1°C.
