Chester, situated in the county of Cheshire in North West England, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Britain. It has an oceanic climate with average maximum summer temperatures of 21°C and average minimum temperatures of 12°C. Located near the border with Wales in North West England, Chester is a city on the River Dee. It has a population of over 118,900. Founded as a Roman fort in 79AD, Chester has many medieval and Victorian buildings in its city centre. It is also a preserved walled city. Popular attractions in the city include the town hall, the cathedral, the Roman amphitheatre, Chester Castle, the Grosvenor Museum, and Old Dee Bridge. Like much of the UK, Chester has an oceanic climate. Thanks to the shelter provided by the Pennines and the Welsh Mountains, Chester has a climate similar to places more inland despite its location near the Irish Sea. Average high temperatures in the summer are between 18 and 21°C. In winter, they are about 7 to 8°C with lows between 1 and 2°C. Average annual precipitation is 703mm.
