Dumfries’s climate

Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is near the mouth of the River Nith. This town was a civil parish and became the county town of the former county of Dumfriesshire. This town is nicknamed “Queen of the South”. People from Dumfries are known colloquially as Doonhamers. The town experiences a maritime climate with cool summers and mild winters. It is one of the less snowy locations in Scotland due to its sheltered, low lying position in the South West of the country. The coldest month is December with an average high temperature of 8°C. The average high in August is 18°C.
