The climate in Durham

Found on the River Wear in North East England, Durham is a city with a population of almost 88,000. Archaeological evidence shows that there may have been a settlement in the area since 2000 BC, and the present city dates back to AD 995. The city has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites that it is well known for, its Norman Cathedral and the 11th century Durham Castle. Durham has a temperate climate like much of the UK. The average high temperature in summer is around 19°C. In winter, the average high temperature is about 6°C with lows near 0°C. The average annual rainfall is about 644mm, which is lower than the national average. The city enjoys more sunshine hours in summer than in winter with an average of over 160 hours a month.
