The climate in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, situated in the south east of Scotland on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, is the capital city of Scotland. It has a population of 448 624 people making it the country’s second largest city. Edinburgh, which is well known for its historical character, is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also renowned for the various different Festivals which are held there, notably the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, the largest performing arts festival in the world attracting thousands of visitors each year. Edinburgh has a temperate maritime climate. Winters are fairly mild with daytime temperatures rarely falling below freezing. Summers are fairly moderate with temperatures rarely exceeding 22°C. Given Edinburgh’s situation between the coast and the hills, it is renowned as being a windy city.
