The climate in Fort William

The second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland, Fort William is a town with a population of 9,908. Lying near the head of Loch Linnhe, one of the largest in Scotland, and the Rivers Nevis and Lochy, the town is a major tourist centre. It attracts visitors thanks to hill walking and climbing due to its proximity to Ben Nevis and other Munro mountains. Just outside the town is a large downhill mountain bike track. The Fort William Mountain Festival is held each year to celebrate culture. Fort William enjoys a climate with cool summers and mild to cold winters. The average high temperature in summer is about 18°C. The average high in winter is about 5°C with lows near -1°C. The town receives abundant rainfall with an annual average around 1,883mm. Precipitation falls year-round with winter tending to have the wettest months.
