Situated on the south bank of the River Thames in northwest Kent in South East England, Gravesend is a town with a population of 66,000. Thanks to its location as the only good landing place, the town has always served an important role in the history and communications of this part of the country. What once served as a first port of call for shipping has turned into a busy commercial town. Popular landmarks include the Gravesend Town Pier, the clock tower at Harmer Street, and the Pocahontas statue. Gravesend has an oceanic climate characterised by warm summers and mild winters.
