The climate in London

Located on the River Thames, London is the largest metropolitan area and urban zone in the United Kingdom and in the European Union with a population of over 15 million in the metro area. London is a global city and a centre for art, commerce, education, entertainment, finance, fashion, research and development, healthcare, tourism and transport. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway in the world. Popular attractions in the city centre include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the British Museum, Piccadilly Circus and 40 West End theatres. It is also home to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London, Kew Gardens, Greenwich, and the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St. Margaret’s Church. London has a temperate oceanic climate. Winters are chilly to cold with frost. Light snowfall occurs during the winter months. Winter temperatures normally range between 2 and 8°C. Summers are warm to hot with average high temperatures between 20 to 23°C. Average precipitation in London is about 590mm.
