Located on the River Thames, London is the largest metropolitan area and urban zone in the United Kingdom and in the European Union with a population of over 15 million in the metro area. London has a temperate oceanic climate. Winters are chilly to cold with frost. Light snowfall occurs during the winter months. Winter temperatures normally range between 2 and 8°C. Summers are warm to hot with average high temperatures between 20 to 23°C. Average precipitation in London is about 590mm.
