Surrounded by steep hills within the Maun Valley, Mansfield is a town in Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England and has a population of 99,600. Historically, the area was heavily influenced by the coal mining and textile industries. The town also is a market town and has a 700-year-old centre market. Attractions include a large commercial centre, the Palace Theatre, a museum, the Bentinck monument, and the Buttercross market monument, which marks the place of the market in the 16th century. Mansfield has a maritime climate which features a narrow temperature range. The average high temperature in summer is around 21°C. In winter, it is around 7°C with lows near 0°C. Rain falls throughout the year with a yearly average of about 633mm.
