The climate in St Andrews

On the east coast of Fife in Scotland, St Andrews is home to the oldest university in Scotland, one of the most prestigious in the United Kingdom. The town has a population of 16,680. Since the 8th century, there has been an important church in St Andrews. Today, St Andrew’s Cathedral, St Andrew’s Castle, and Holy Trinity Church are important landmarks and destinations. West Sands Beach has also played an important role in recent history and was featured in the 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony. St Andrews has a temperate maritime climate that is relatively mild for its northerly latitude. However, in winter, daytime temperatures may fall below 0° and are on average around 4°C. In summer, the average high temperature is about 19°C. The town is often subject to high winds. Annual precipitation is around 653mm with rain falling throughout the year and snow being rare.
