The climate in San Diego

Situated on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California near the Mexican border, San Diego is the eighth largest city in the United States with a population of over 1.3 million in the city centre and 3 million in the metropolitan area. As the first site visited by Europeans on the West Coast of the US, the city is known for its mild climate, deep water harbour, and extensive beaches. Visitors may also enjoy attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Belmont Amusement Park, and Balboa Park. San Diego has a Mediterranean climate to the north and a semi-arid climate to the south and east characterised by warm, dry summers and mild winters. The average high temperature in summer is around 24°C. In winter, it is about 18°C with lows near 9°C. Average rainfall is 262mm with most precipitation falling between December and March.
