The climate in Seattle

Found on a narrow isthmus in Washington in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, Seattle is a major coastal seaport city with a population of 634,535 in the city centre and over 3.9 million in the metro area. The city is a gateway for trade with Asia and a major centre of aircraft manufacturing. It is also a centre for technology, “green” industry, and sustainable development. Popular attractions include the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Seattle Great Wheel, and the Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. The city is also host to the annual Seattle International Film Festival. Seattle has an oceanic temperate marine climate with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Annual precipitation is around 950mm with rain occurring on an average of 150 days each year. The city has a reputation for being rainy because of the frequency for rain in autumn, winter, and spring. Seattle has moderate to heavy rain in November, December, and January with nearly half of its annual precipitation falling during these months. The average high temperature in summer is 25°C thought temperatures may reach 32°C on a few days each year. In winter, the average high is 8°C with lows around 3°C.
